Take Your Freedom Back?

E-cigarette manufacturers will do anything to make their products seem more attractive. They'll even hire celebrity douches to say ridiculous things like "It's time we take our freedom back."

But keep in mind that smoking an e-cigarette doesn't make you look cool, it just keeps you addicted to nicotine, which keeps you buying their products. And perhaps the production of toxic secondhand cigarette smoke may not have been the only reason behind your "freedom".

  1. It looks like some leaders in the public health profession and those in their ivory-towered enclaves are beginning to see the big picture about e-cigarettes. They're not about reducing smoking, they're about increasing nicotine addiction.

According to Professor Stanton Glantz, Aggressive e-cigarette advertising promotes nicotine addiction -

Two of the comments on the August 30 story, "E-Cigarette Makers’ Ads Echo Tobacco’s Heyday," in the New York Times should give pause to those in the public health community who are so convinced that heavy promotion of e-cigarettes will reduce the health toll of nicotine addiction:

  2. Like I said, it's not about getting smokers to quit, it's about getting more people addicted to pure nicotine products. According to the CDC's September 06, 2013 Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report: Notes from the Field (pdf) (beginning on Page 21) -

"E-cigarette experimentation and recent use doubled among U.S. middle and high school students during 2011–2012, resulting in an estimated 1.78 million students having ever used e-cigarettes as of 2012. Moreover, in 2012, an estimated 160,000 students who reported ever using e-cigarettes had never used conventional cigarettes."
